Henderson County Youth Council

Purpose is Prevention

Substance use prevention involves many facets, and engaging youth in projects that they find meaningful is an important one. Henderson County Youth Council (HCYC) is a youth development program that teaches public speaking, strategic planning and other skills as a means to guide youth purpose.

HCYC is a service-learning and leadership development program for high school students of Henderson County. HCYC is a student led and driven organization supported by United Way. The council consists of representatives from all public high schools including the Innovative High School and Early College and is open to youth enrolled in home schools.

What does the Henderson County Youth Council do?

HCYC gives youth a platform to make local changes that impact youth. They research, survey, and initiate projects that benefit young adults in Henderson County. HCYC provides an opportunity for young people to learn about and put into action community-wide planning as well as enhance leadership skills and responsibility.

Henderson County Youth Council Goals:

  • Initiate community service projects and social events for young adults in Henderson County
  • Advocate for youth leadership opportunities
  • Advocate for inclusion of youth perspective in local government decision making
